UNF Ospreys hire former team manager Zack Freesman as assistant coach
The University of North Florida has filled an assistant basketball coaching job with a former Ospreys manager.
Zack Freesman has come full circle back to the University of North Florida men's basketball program. Freesman, who was a UNF basketball manager from 2013-2016, was hired as an assistant coach by Bobby Kennen on April 13. He most recently served on the staff at Florida Tech.
Freesman, a native of Weston, was the manager during the Ospreys' 2015 ASUN championship, which qualified them for their only NCAA Tournament berth. Kennen was an assistant on that staff under Matthew Driscoll . Kennen said Freesman told him a year before he came to UNF that his dream was to be a college basketball coach.
"I first met Zack as a high school senior. Immediately, he articulated his dream of becoming a Division I coach, in addition to his plans for doing so," Kennen said in a statement. "Zack's actions have matched his vision, and he has worked tirelessly to make his dream our reality.
He has amassed a wealth of experience across many of the best basketball conferences in the country. " Freesman, who graduated from UNF in 2016 with a Bachelor's in Sports Management, has been an assistant and recruiting coordinator at Coastal Carolina, Western Carolina, Winthrop and Virginia Commonwealth. He and his wife Jillian have one daughter, Amelia, who is 22 months old.
