Report: Vikings not expected to draft a cornerback early
Free agency has the Vikings potentially shying away from drafting a cornerback next week.
The Minnesota Vikings have been mocked several defensive players in recent weeks by analysts and draft experts. The majority of them have been safety Dillon Thieneman, but there has also been a mix of a few cornerbacks. The secondary group in this draft class is one of the deeper positions, so it makes sense, but one person does think it makes the most sense.
The Athletic's Alec Lewis wrote up some notes on the team ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft. Within his notebook, he discussed how mock drafts are shaping up for the team, but he addressed the idea of the Vikings finding a new cornerback early on in the selection process. Lewis points out this idea, writing, "The Vikings havenโt used a first- or second-round pick on a cornerback since Flores arrived, and I donโt expect them to start now, especially after signing free agent James Pierre.
" If this is indeed the case, the team would be looking to add depth at most on day three of the draft. There are some viable options that are late in the process, but no one is suggesting that they would be anything more than role players at that point. However, the draft rolls out for the Vikings, it seems they may be set at the cornerback position.
