Giants receiving trade calls but likely to remain at No. 5... for now
The Giants have received calls about the No. 5 pick in the 2025 NFL draft, but are likely to stay put unless a big haul is offered on draft night.
The New York Giants hold the fifth overall selection in the 2026 NFL draft and can go in many directions with the pick, depending on how the first four picks unfold. As of right now, general manager Joe Schoen does not see a trade in the cards. Speaking to reporters at his pre-draft press conference on Tuesday, Schoen sounded like a GM who appears ready to use the pick to select the best available player on the board.
Joe Schoen says he does not anticipate Giants trading out of No. 5 - if they do at all - until Thursday night. Tells me they have at least one player they will not trade away from.
— Art Stapleton (@art_stapleton) April 14, 2026 Schoen said the Giants have received several calls from teams seeking to move up in the draft. The Giants moving back in the order is possible, but is unlikely to happen before draft night. "We always think -- and everybody sees the board -- their board looks just like ours, you assume, the way you're looking at it, at some point maybe there's a Mendoza line where there's a drop-off and the player at 8 may be the same type of player you can get at 18, so maybe there's not a big difference in those," he said.
"At some point, some teams may want to move back because of that, but at the same time, they may want to get into that top 8 or 10 or 11 or whatever it is for that particular team, may want to get inside of that to get a significantly better player potentially. "We've gotten a couple calls (from) teams sniffing around about potentially coming up, and again, we'll just have to wait and see who's there when we pick. I don't really foresee us moving back before next Thursday night.
