The New York Giants and NT Dexter Lawrence have reportedly reached an "impasse" in contract talks despite what GM Joe Schoen said on Tuesday.

The New York Giants and star nose tackle Dexter Lawrence have reached an impasse in contract extension discussions, reports Paul Schwartz of the New York Post . The Post confirmed that negotiations have stalled and an impasse has been reached as of late Tuesday night. The development comes at a critical time, just days before the 2026 NFL Draft and hours after general manager Joe Schoen described ongoing talks as productive during his pre-draft press conference.

Schoen had stated that conversations with Lawrence's representatives, involving head coach John Harbaugh and senior vice president of football operations Dawn Aponte, had been "really good" and aimed at finding a resolution. He expressed the team's desire for Lawrence to remain in New York while noting the player remains under contract for two more years. "We've had good conversations with his representatives throughout the last five or six days," Schoen told reporters.

"We've all been in communication. We're all trying to find some resolution. We'd all like for Dexter to be here.

And at some point, we'll come to a resolution here, whatever that may be. We'll see. But conversations have been really good.
