VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The Virginia Wesleyan softball team is having a season for the ages. Undefeated through 32 games, the Marlins are the top-ranked team in Division III, and this past weekend, longtime head coach Brandon Elliott picked up career win number 700.
“You do this long enough and you’re gonna get some wins,” Elliott said. “I could not ask for a better weekend, it was strike-out cancer [day], which honored my mother. ” The Marlins have won three national titles in their history, all under Elliott, but none of the current players have felt the feeling of winning it all.
The majority of Wesleryan’s wins haven’t even been close. Elliott knows he has a team that is capable of winning a national championship. “I continue to do this,” he said, “because I want to bring another group of kids to give them the opportunity to experience that.
