TULSA — Campbell Smithwick hit two home runs and Brennan Phillips was strong in relief as Oklahoma State knocked off No. 14 Oklahoma in a weather-shortened Bedlam baseball game, 7-3 Tuesday night at ONEOK Field . OSU (23-14, 7-8 Big 12) also got home runs from Kollin Ritchie and Garrett Shull as it evened the Bedlam record for the season.
OU won the first meeting 10-1 in February at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. The Sooners (24-12, 7-8 SEC) were held scoreless through the first seven innings, but got on the board with a pair of walks and a Jaxon Willits home run just before the weather delay in the bottom of the eighth inning. It was Willits’ third homer of the year.
Light rain fell for most of the final four innings of the game, though it was never hard enough to necessitate a delay. But in the bottom of the eighth, lightning neared ONEOK Field, resulting in the stoppage. Soon after, the rain intensified and a tornado warning was issued for the area, at which point the game was officially called.
