Erie Mason boys, girls open Tri-County Conference competition by knocking off Whiteford; New Boston Huron sweeps Airport.
OTTAWA LAKE โ The Tri-County Conference track and field race in recent years has been like the NASCAR season. The biggest event comes first. Just as NASCAR opens with the Daytona 500, the TCC gets started with its two best teams going head-to-head.
That key opening statement went to Erie Mason as the boys and girls both got started by beating Whiteford on Tuesday, April 14. The girls pulled out a 75-65 win while the boys posted a 79-58 victory. Guillana Nastale led the girls, taking the 100 and 200-meter dashes โ the two events she won last spring at the Division 3 state finals.
She also was part of the winning 800 and 1,600 relays. Jaylyn Horton won the 1,600 and ,3200 and led a sweep of the top three places in the 1,600 with Riley England and Tani Neff. Paige Konrad ruled the long jump and was part of the 800 relay.
Other Eagle winners were Aubrey Icoangelli (high jump) and Lexie Carner (high hurdles). Masonโs boys were led by Lincoln Murbach, who won both hurdle races and the 100 meters. He ran a personal-best :15.
