DWU's Alison Ernsberger named GPAC top pitcher for third-straight week
Apr. 14—SIOUX CITY, Iowa. — For the third straight week, Dakota Wesleyan University softball standout Alison Ernsberger has been named the Great Plains Athletic Conference softball pitcher of the week, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
Ernsberger, a sophomore from Granville, Ohio, recorded a pair of wins in the circle during the week. She put up consecutive complete-game outings, setting a new career-high of 14 strikeouts in a 6-0 win over Waldorf on April 8, while striking out seven batters against Doane just a few days later on April 11 in a 3-1 victory. On the week she tossed 14 innings, allowing eight hits, and one earned run, while recording 21 strikeouts.
The right-hander ranks third in the GPAC in strikeouts with 123, plus a 1. 92 earned-run average in 113 innings pitched. She's tied for third in the league in pitching wins with her teammate Mandalyn Nachtigall with 12 each.
DWU has won 12 games in a row and Ernsberger has picked up the pitching victory in seven games in that span. DWU (30-11, 13-1 GPAC) hosts Mount Marty for Alumni Day on Thursday, April 16 for a 6:30 p. m.
