Angels tee off Ryan Weathers with three home runs in first inning

Yahoo Sports

Ryan Weathers' start against the Angels did not begin well, as the Yankees pitcher allowed three homers in the first inning.

NEW YORK – On the visitor’s side, the power show started early at Yankee Stadium. Against the Yankees’ lefty starter Ryan Weathers, a trio of Angels belted back-to-back-to-back first inning home runs for a 3-0 lead . After smashing two homers on Monday night, Mike Trout began Tuesday night’s power spree with a drive to center off a 2-1 fastball.

Jo Adell sent the very next Weathers delivery – a 96-mph fastball – an estimated 445 feet over the left field wall. Weathers then fell behind 2-0 to Jorge Soler, who crushed a 96-mph fastball to left – marking the first time since July 24, 2023 at Colorado that the Angels smashed three straight homers in one inning. Entering Tuesday night, Weathers hadn’t given up a home run in three starts (16 innings) this year.

Weathers was coming off an eight-inning, one-run performance last Thursday against the A’s in the Bronx, easily the best of his first three Yankees starts. On Monday night, the Angels and Yankees combined for seven home runs in the Yanks’ 11-10 win. This article originally appeared on NorthJersey.
