Adam Schefter says Aaron Rodgers delays could impact Steelers draft
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter thinks the Steelers will look at Ty Simpson in the NFL Draft if Rodgers continues to delay.
Just like last year, the Pittsburgh Steelers are heading into the NFL draft with quarterback Aaron Rodgers leading them on before finally signing with the team. Rodgers waited until mandatory minicamp to sign with the team and we still attribute those delays (along with not playing in the preseason) for why his season was so underwhelming. Now, with just a week until the 2026 NFL Draft, the Steelers have to go into another draft without Rodgers under contract but new head coach Mike McCarthy might not be willing to sit back and wait without having a backup plan.
This is what ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter talked about on Unsportsmanlike on ESPN Radio. Schefter believes if Rodgers isn't signed, the Steelers could look at a player like Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson at No. 21.
"So now if the draft comes and you are the Pittsburgh Steelers, are you talking more about quarterbacks and the draft? I think you are," Schefter said. Schefter followed to say he meant all the quarterbacks but included Simpson in the first round.
McCarthy has spoken very highly of second-year quarterback Will Howard but we tend to agree with Schefter that it is Rodgers who will drive how the Steelers approach the position in the draft.
