When the offseason started, Christian Gonzalez noted his desire to sign an extension with the New England Patriots , but extension talks seem to be taking longer than expected.
Paying Gonzalez seems like a no-brainer. He is one of the best corners in the NFL, and a key part of the Patriots' defense. On Monday, Patriots executive vice president of player personnel and de facto general manager, Eliot Wolf, spoke to the media and commented on extension talks with Gonzalez.
"No Gonzalez update other than I'll continue to publicly say that we want Christian here," Wolf said. "Again, he's under contract, so we would expect that. " The reality is that these contract talks will likely not become public unless Gonzalez starts holding out.
There seems to be mutual interest between both parties, but Gonzalez is letting his agent handle his side of things. “I’m not really trying to get into all of that,” Gonzalez said of the specifics of getting an extension done after the Super Bowl. “I mean, it’s kind of more my agents, they’ll deal with that and keep me up to speed on it.
