Alec Bohm fires agent Scott Boras amid Phillies star's legal battle with parents

Alec Bohm re-hired his former agent months ahead of hitting free agency.

Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm is making a significant change just a few months ahead of free agency. With Bohm months away from hitting the market, the third baseman fired super-agent Scott Boras, according to The Athletic. The move comes with Bohm engaged in a legal battle with his parents.

Bohm is “seeking the return of $528,618 that his parents purportedly withdrew from a brokerage account attached to Bohm in March,” per The Athletic. In a lawsuit filed in March, Bohm was reportedly seeking $3 million from his parents , claiming he was defrauded by them. They denied the allegations.

Those two issues are somewhat related, as Bohm’s parents reportedly pushed him to sign with Boras in 2020. In a filing, Bohm claimed he made that decision under “considerable duress” from his parents, who wanted to “further their own instruments, to my detriment. ” Bohm’s parents reportedly wanted the third baseman to leave his former agent — Nick Chanock — after they disagreed with a financial adviser Chanock’s agency recommended.

After parting ways with Boras, Bohm rehired Chanock. The decision comes with Bohm in his walk year with the Phillies. That hasn’t gotten off to a great start, as Bohm is hitting just .
