2027 4-star Edge out of Connecticut announces commitment date
Texas A&M is finalist to land 2027 4-star edge Mekai Brown, who will announce his commitment on Friday, April 17.
Texas A&M's spring football season will officially end on Saturday after the Aggies take part in the annual Maroon & White Game. However, recruiting never takes a break, and coach Mike Elko is completely focused on landing commitments from several priority prospects in the 2027 cycle, including blue-chip four-star edge Mekai Brown. After landing 2027 five-star edge Zyron Forstall , it was expected that Elko and his staff would be frontrunners for Brown, who is the top-ranked prospect in Connecticut, and possesses elite size at 6'7" and over 250 pounds, and is also considered one of the best overall athletes in the cycle.
However, after landing in his final five program list, Texas A&M will contend with Notre Dame, Ohio State, Ole Miss, and USC, and according to several sources, the Trojans have regained momentum, but after his unofficial visit to College Station, the Aggies are clearly the program to watch, especially after landing Forstall. On Monday, Brown announced his commitment date for Friday, April 17, and while he has yet to schedule an official visit with the Aggies, Texas A&M could come out victorious at the end of the week and solidify its future at one of the more important positions along the defensive line. Brown's 2025 season was shortened to just four appearances, while his 2024 sophomore season included 36 tackles, seven sacks, and seven tackles for loss.
Brown's 2026 senior season, if he stays healthy, could make him a five-star prospect before signing with a team. According to 247Sports, Brown is currently positioned as the 49th-ranked prospect in the 2027 class, the 8th-ranked Edge, and the No. 1-ranked prospect in Connecticut.
