Kentucky Wildcats News: Rob Wright and Tyran Stokes Watch Rolls On

Yahoo Sports

Kentucky basketball head coach Mark Pope and his staff have had quite an unpleasant start to their off-season, losing several key players from last season’s team with hardly any momentum to replace those contributors. Other than Mason Williams (4-star recruit, No. 12 via 247 Sports), who is coming in as a freshman, Pope doesn’t have any new hard commits for next year’s roster.

However, there is one high school recruit who is warming up for the Wildcats. Tyran Stokes (5-star recruit, No. 1 via 247Sports) is in Lexington and recently spent some time at UK’s practice facility getting familiar with the program.

It appears that Kentucky is in a two -horse race with Kansas for the nation’s top prospect, and though Kansas was viewed as the front-runner , Monday’s visit could be a turning point. In regard to the transfer portal, Kentucky has had its sights set on Rob Wright from BYU. The 6-1 guard averaged over 18 points per game last season for the Cougars and shot 41% from 3-point range.

Kentucky is considered to be the favorite, but a return to BYU has not been ruled out. Landing both Stokes (power forward) and Wright (guard) would certainly bolster Kentucky’s current projection of a starting lineup for next season, while also helping lure other veteran players to Lexington in search of a greater chance to win a lot of games while also competing for a national championship. Stay tuned for the latest on both Stokes and Wright as Pope aims to rebuild his team once again.
