‘Shocking decision’: Carrick blasts Martinez red card as ‘one of the worst ever’ in Man United’s loss to Leeds Michael Carrick called the decision to send off Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez against Leeds 'one of the worst' he's ever seen. A bad night for Manchester United got worse when Martinez was dismissed for pulling Dominic Calvert-Lewin's hair at Old Trafford. VAR deemed the action to be violent conduct, with the Argentine receiving a red card.
United were 2-0 down at the time of the red card, following Noah Okofor's first-half double for Leeds. Casemiro headed home a reply for the Red Devils, but Leeds held on to claim a precious three points in their fight against Premier League relegation. Carrick was fuming at the decision to send Martinez off, insisting their was minimal contact between the centre-back and England forward.
"That decision was one of the worst I've ever seen," Carrick fumed . "He [Calvert-Lewin] can throw his arms in Licha's [Martinez's] face - and then he's sent off. Shocking.
"I don't even know what it looks like. It's not a pull, it's not a tug, it's not aggressive. He touches it and he gets sent off.
"Worse of all, he gets sent to overturn it, a clear and obvious error. Shocking. He is off balance and grappling.
