CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. ( WFXR ) – Aaron Roussell was officially introduced in Charlottesville on Monday as the new head coach of the Virginia Cavaliers women’s basketball. Roussell takes over the program following a highly successful run at Richmond Spiders women’s basketball, where he led the Spiders to three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.
Over the course of his career, he has built a reputation as a consistent winner, with mire than 450 total victories. Roussell said the opportunity to lead Virginia came together quickly, but it was the combination of tradition, resources, and long-term vision that ultimately made the job the right fit. “A selling point is the power to win here,” Roussell said.
“The development that our staff feels comfortable doing to make people pros, that’s something we really took to heart. I want to develop pros. ” He also emphasized player development and relationship-building as key pillars, while already getting to work on recruiting and assembling his staff.
