Dave McGinnis, former Arizona Cardinals head coach, dead at 74
Dave McGinnis, head coach of the Arizona Cardinals from 2000-2003, died Monday at the age of 74.
The Arizona Cardinals are mourning the loss of a former head coach. Dave McGinnis, who coached the Cardinals from midseason 2000-2003, died at the age of 74 on Monday. McGinnis had been in the hospital in Nashville since March 4.
He coached in the NFL from 1986-2016. He was defensive coordinator for the Cardinals unbder head coach Vince Tobin from 1996-2000 and was named interim head coach when Tobin was fired midseason. He had the interim tag removed and coached the Cardinals for the next three years.
He went 17-40 in three and a half seasons before he was let go. After that, he spent 2004-2011 as a linebackers coach and assistant head coach under Jeff Fisher. He was assistant head for the St.
Louis/Los Angeles Rams from 2012-2016, again working under Fisher. He was loved and respected by pretty much anyone who he encountered โ players, coaches and media. Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill issued a statement from the team.
