Roughriders baseball logs doubleheader sweep
NEOSHO, Mo. — The Crowder College Roughriders baseball team (22-7) eked out a close 6-5 walk-off win in Game 1 and posted a 13-2 run-rule performance in Game 2 en route Saturday to a doubleheader sweep of the St. Charles Community College Cougars (17-24) at Lallemand Family Field.
The Roughriders also swept the four-game series, which began Thursday, against the Cougars. In Game 1 on Saturday, Crowder posted four runs in the bottom of the opening frame but was unable to get another run across until the bottom of the seventh. In the meantime, the Cougars plated one run in the top of the third inning, two in the top of the fourth and took a 5-4 lead with two players scoring in the top of the seventh inning.
Spencer Mounce came through for the Roughriders in the bottom of the seventh when he drove in Maddox Morrison and Camren Stratton with a single to right field to help Crowder walk off with a 6-5 win. Mounce led the Roughriders after going 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a run. Ryan Stalony was 1 for 3 with a run and an RBI.
Crowder starter Micah Henson gave up three runs, two earned on three hits, while striking out three and walking three in 3 1/3 innings. Will Rushing earned the win after giving up two runs, one earned, on two hits. He struck out one and walked none in 1 2/3 innings of relief.
Ayden Katzenberg led the Cougars, going 2 for 3 with one RBI. Jackson Tankersly went the distance for St. Charles, giving up six runs, four earned, on eight hits.
