Williams is due a base salary of $32 million in 2026, and though the 10-time Pro Bowler is one of the best tackles in football, the 49ers don't want to pay him that type of money, as he is set to turn 38 in July. As a result, San Francisco has been trying to agree to a reworked deal with Williams, and the latest update is a mixed bag. "San Franisco might be banking on it waning after the draft as teams address that need with high draft picks, but injuries in the offseason are inevitable and we get the sense from multiple league sources that Williams is no closer to agreeing to a reworked deal with yhe team and is in no hurry to make a decision in that regard," La Canfora said. However, La Canfora also added that the 49ers recently made a contract offer to Williams, and there is some hope a resolution can be reached in the coming days. "League sources indicated there is a chance this gets resolved early this week, depending on how comfortable the player is with the latest proposal.
And, should the sides not make headway over the coming days, there is potential for this to get sideways," La Canfora added.
