Late game heroics end Duke losing streak vs. NC State

After four consecutive losses, it took a special performance to defeat the Wolfpack and avoid a sweep on the road.

After an ACC series win against the Louisville Cardinals last weekend, the Duke Blue Devils fell on hard times, losing four consecutive games. Two came at the hands of NC State, one against East Carolina University and another against Louisville. Amidst their struggles, the Blue Devils needed some late-game magic to end their drought, defeating the Wolfpack 3-2 Sunday to avoid a series sweep.

The Blue Devils got off to a quick start, scoring on an error in the first. They doubled their advantage in the second with a solo home run (404ft) from Aidan Zorn. However, the Wolfpack came back in the bottom of the eighth, tying things at two apiece.

To lead off the final frame, Kaden Smith played the hero, sending a 390-foot blast over the left field wall to give Duke a 3-2 lead, an advantage they'd protect in the bottom of the ninth. With their losing streak snapped, the Blue Devils will have Monday off before hosting Liberty University Tuesday.
