Top Notre Dame 2027 quarterback target decommits from Illinois

The first step of Notre Dame possibly locking up their quarterback of the future occurred on Monday . Kamden Lopati, the four-star 247Sports Composite 2027 quarterback announced that he had decommitted from the University of Illinois on Monday afternoon. The Utah native had committed to the Illini last July, but his lack of appearance this past weekend when the Illini hosted potential recruits may have been a signal that he was going to go in a different direction.

Lopati’s blend of arm strength and mobility makes him a natural fit for modern spread offenses. He’s known for his confident downfield passing and ability to extend plays outside the pocket, earning comparisons to recent Power Five starters with similar skill sets. His junior season at Mater Dei High School featured more than 2,500-passing yards and 28-touchdowns, along with nearly 700-yards rushing.

Both Notre Dame and Michigan hosted Lopati for unofficial visits in March, each offering him the chance to work directly with offensive coordinators and quarterback coaches.
