Rohit Sharma underwent an MRI to assess a suspected hamstring injury, with results set to determine his availability for Mumbai Indians’ clash against Punjab Kings. The 38-year-old retired hurt after scoring 19 against RCB. A source said he could miss matches if results are unfavourable, while Sherfane Rutherford confirmed uncertainty around the injury.

MUMBAI: Former India and Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma has undergone a scan to assess the severity of a suspected hamstring injury, TOI has learnt. His availability for MI’s next match against Punjab Kings on Thursday in Mumbai will depend on the results. "Yes, Rohit underwent an MRI on Monday morning (at the HL Reliance Hospital) to determine the extent of his hamstring injury.

If the results don't look good, he may even miss a couple of matches. The scan results will come by today evening," a source close to the developments told TOI. The 38-year-old retired hurt during MI’s 18-run loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.

He walked off in the sixth over after scoring 19 off 13 balls, including two fours and a six. Before retiring hurt, Rohit was attended by the MI physio before the first ball of that over. After a brief stoppage for treatment, he returned to face the next delivery, blocked it, and then left the field.

Rohit has had hamstring concerns in the past. "I'm not entirely sure yet - perhaps it's a bit of a hamstring issue - but I can't say for certain. I was in the dugout, so I don't have much information on it," teammate Sherfane Rutherford said after the match.
