Here are the Ames Tribune male Athlete of the Week candidates for the week of April 5-11.
The week of April 5-11 saw Ames-area high school boys soccer, track and field, tennis and golf teams and athletes have another big week despite inclement weather interfering with several events. The defending 2A state champion Gilbert boys soccer team went 2-0 with wins over Ballard (2-0) and Aplington-Parkersburg. Ames won its season opener in boys soccer on April 7 with a 4-0 victory at Mason City.
The Gilbert boys golf team placed third at Pella, and the Tigers fell to Adel-Desoto-Minburn in a dual meet. The Nevada boys placed second at the Nevada Co-ed Invitational golf meet. Track meets featuring area teams were limited due to the weather, but Ames, Ballard and Gilbert competed at the Jim Duncan Invitational on April 11 in Des Moines.

Logan Harswick, Gilbert Harswick scored one goal and helped the Gilbert boys soccer team pull off another shutout during a 4-0 victory over Aplington-Parkersburg on April 10 at Tiger Stadium in Gilbert. Harswick's goal came when he followed a free kick by Will Youngberg 25 minutes into the game to give Gilbert a 3-0 lead.
