Mainoo close to signing new Man Utd contract, says Carrick Michael Carrick has said that Kobbie Mainoo is close to penning a new contract with Manchester United. The 20-year-old has been a key first-team player this season, featuring in 22 Premier League games. Mainoo’s deal runs until 2027, with the club having an option to extend it by another year.

But his current terms mean he is earning only around £25,000 a week at Old Trafford. United are keen to tie him down to a new five-year contract, which would likely boost his salary to about £120,000 a week. Talking to the media before Monday’s home clash with Leeds United, Carrick confirmed that negotiations with Mainoo are ‘in a good place’ .

“It’s getting closer, so we’re positive about that,” said Carrick. “We’re calm with it, but we’re positive with it and time will tell how it goes. But at the moment, we are in a good place.

” Mainoo’s future in Manchester was a subject of debate when United last played against Leeds in January. The England international had not started a single Premier League game at that point under Ruben Amorim. But Amorim was sacked following the 1-1 draw at Elland Road , and Mainoo’s fortunes have undergone a dramatic transformation since.
