Van Dijk: Fulham Result Was “Just a Win”

Liverpool’s Captain was upbeat, but cautious after the Reds secured 3 points against Fulham.

And while we all remember the rather long (and bleak) period in the autumn when it looked like Liverpool couldn’t find a result, I think the general consensus has been that the Reds have been underwhelming.

At various times this year, the team would string together a performance (or two) that looked like they might have found their way back towards the squad who’d managed to frustrate the Premier League last year on the way to claiming the top prize. Eventually, then, what looked to be a new dawn would be revealed to be a mere trick of the eye – and possibly heart – as the team would once more slump back towards an unreliable mess. All of this is to say that Liverpool have been uneven all season and we’d know better than to get too hopeful after Saturday’s quite competent performance against Fulham.

And, as it turns out, Liverpool’s own skipper had some thoughts on the result. Speaking to the press after the match, Liverpool captain Virgil Van Dijk essentially underlined the need for the team to put more performances like this out for the public to enjoy before thinking that all of their issues are sorted. “…[keeping] a clean sheet, to see the work-rate everyone put in, I’m pleased with that.

But it’s just a win and we have to keep going. ” Wise words from Van Dijk and a set, I’m sure, the fanbase would generally agree upon given the aforementioned lack of consistency from this Liverpool squad. In the same set of remarks, the defender noted that the team were aware of how precious qualifying for Champions League football is and that the team fully feel the weight of maintaining their grip on entry into next year’s competition.
