McIlroy has followed in the footsteps of Jack Nicklaus, Sir Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods in achieving the feat, having secured a one-shot victory at Augusta. He finished on 12-under to edge out his nemesis Scottie Scheffler, with Rose finishing joint third on 10-under with Tyrrell Hatton, Cameron Young and Russell Henley.
It continues a heartbreaking theme for the Englishman at The Masters , where he has finished as runner-up on three occasions. But despite his disappointment at another near miss, Rose was still able to deliver a classy message about the patrons at Augusta . Justin Rose touched by ‘beautiful’ ovation from Augusta patrons on hole 18 When asked afterwards how it felt coming onto the 18th with the crowd giving him a standing ovation and calling out his name, he said: “Nice.
“It was nice. “Felt like the crowd was amazing to me all week long. “They pulled for me all week long.
“I felt their encouragement and support. “At the end it kind of goes a little flat. “It’s more of a sympathy than anything.
