Chris Kuper's hire was reinforced by Vic Fangio and Mike Munchak support
Vic Fangio and Hall of Famer Mike Munchak reportedly helped solidify the Eagles’ decision to hire Chris Kuper.
When it was reported that longtime offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland would step away , it sent a ripple through the City of Brotherly Love. It wasn't just another Philadelphia Eagles coaching change. Stoutland had become synonymous with the Eagles' offensive line success.
He was a constant through multiple eras and one of the most respected position coaches in the NFL. Replacing him was never going to be simple, and naturally, fans and media members had questions about what came next. The Eagles turned to Chris Kuper .
It seemed reasonable to think the move was rooted in familiarity, i. e. , his prior relationship with Vic Fangio .
New information reveals that it was indeed the case. According to John McMullen , Kuper was strongly endorsed by people whose opinions carry real weight, Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio and Pro Football Hall of Fame member Mike Munchak. Kuper and Munchak were both part of Fangio's Denver Broncos coaching staff, the former working directly under the latter.
