Katie Stewart's walk-off home run in the eighth inning secured an 8-6 victory for Texas over Oklahoma in softball. Here are three takeaways.

AUSTIN, Texas — With one on and one out in the eighth, the game was tied. Texas’ Katie Stewart lifted her plant foot, timed it perfectly and crushed a 2-0 pitch deep over the left-field wall. She knew it was gone immediately and slammed her bat into the dirt.

Ballgame. Stewart’s second homer of the day lifted Texas to an 8-6 walk-off win over Oklahoma on Sunday at Red & Charline McCombs Field, salvaging one of three games over the weekend. Before Stewart’s blast, earlier in the inning, freshman Hannah Wells tied the game with a solo shot.

The Sooners still claimed the series, having clinched it Saturday night . Heading into extra innings, the Sooners had the momentum. For a moment, it looked like they might steal the sweep.

Instead, Stewart made sure they didn’t. Texas outhit OU 12-9, with Stewart and Kayden Henry combining for six hits, six RBIs and three home runs. Teagan Kavan struck out six across seven innings and Citlaly Gutierrez picked up the win with one out in the eighth.
