Haotong Li's Nightmare Transforms into a Miracle at Augusta National
Haotong Li's Nightmare Transforms into a Miracle. Scottie Scheffler waits by the 13th tee after Li makes a mess of things. Li ends up with a miraculous 10, thanks to his comeback on the par-4 12th.
If you're following the Masters and noticed Scottie Scheffler pacing up to Haotong Li on the 13th tee, that's because Li was in a complete mess. His tee shot found the fairway but then continued an unexpected roller coaster of errors. He pulled his second shot left, sending it spinning into the bushes, where he swiped at it and seemed unsure of its path.
The next shot missed the green entirely, landing on the edge of hazard territory. He tried a third with less success before ultimately hitting it too hard to get back onto the green. After missing the 18-foot par putt for eagle on the previous hole, Li dropped his ball and then hit an errant approach that rolled across Rae's Creek into its tributary.
Despite multiple attempts at recovery, his final try saw him miss by just a couple of inches to ensure he only ended up with a 10. Itโs worth noting that this score was far from the best on Augusta Nationalโs infamous 13th hole, as Ken Nakajima had posted a 13 before. Liโs miraculous turn-around on the par-4 12th made his journey all the more impressive.
