BYU had an extra roster spot after Nate Pickens was ruled out just before the season started, and BYU elected to use that roster spot on Ahmed. Ahmed chose BYU over Houston after visiting both schools in November. Ahmed is 22 years old and the staff brough in Ahmed with the hope that he’d be the backup center to Keba and potentially take over once Keita graduated.

Ahmed showed some flashes early with his shot-blocking ability, but ultimately never materialized close to what BYU had hoped. Ahmed brought little offensive game, was late on rotations, and didn’t come through with big rebounds when needed. The 6-foot-10 big man did average 1.
