UH water polo team reaches Big West final
Ariadna Temprano Xambo scored four goals and Roni Perlman had four assists as No. 1 seed Hawaii held off No. 4 seed UC Irvine 8-7 in the semifinals of the Big West Women’s Water Polo Championship on Saturday in Long Beach, Calif.
Ema Vernoux added two goals and Daisy Logtens made 12 saves for the Rainbow Wahine (15-5). “That Irvine team is an incredible team. We knew it was never going to be easy,” Hawaii coach James Robinson said during a press conference posted by the conference.
“I knew it would be a physical game and ultimately it started on the defensive end. Our team did a really good job of holding it down and giving up only seven goals. That’s an awesome defensive effort by our group.
” Hawaii will face No. 2 seed Long Beach State (17-10) in today’s final at 11 a. m.
The match will be broadcast on ESPN+. “The focus will be on us,” Robinson said. “We need to continue to tighten the screws a little better on how we can be better every single game.
