'Not on': Dortmund unhappy after jeers against Schlotterbeck
Borussia Dortmund's Nico Schlotterbeck and Bayer Leverkusen's Christian Kofane battle for the ball during the German Bundesliga soccer match between Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen at Signal Iduna Park. Bernd Thissen/dpa Borussia Dortmund are not happy that centre back Nico Schlotterbeck was received in a hostile way by some of their fans during Saturday's Bundesliga defeat against Bayer Leverkusen. There were boos and whistles on several occasions from the diehards the day after the German international had renewed his contract until 2027.
Fans were seemingly disgruntled because the renewal of his original deal until 2027, and because it reportedly includes a release clause of up to €60 million ($70 million) for certain top clubs - but not Bayern Munich, according to the Bild paper - which could already be activated in summer. This could mean that Schlotterbeck could leave in summer if he generates serious interest by playing a good World Cup. Dortmund coach Niko Kovac said the kind of reception Schlotterbeck received was "not on" as he he stressed that "the lad committed to BVB.
It doesn't mean it is bad when it takes a little longer. " Board spokesman Carsten Cremen insisted that "Borussia Dortmund players deserve support when they enter the pitch. It doesn't feel good for me.
" Schlotterbeck said on Friday he intentionally took his time with the renewal but that club bosses had a good plan and that he wants to win titles with the team, something he is yet to achieve since arriving in 2022. Dortmund have all but lost the title race to Bayern Munich and are out of the German Cup and Champions League. But in second they have almost assured themselves of a place in the next Champions League.
Schlotterbeck left without a comment on Saturday but fellow defender Waldemar Anton also backed him. "Nobody deserves to be jeered, especially not in the own stadium. Those are things that don't work at all," Anton said.
