Rory McIlroy is on the verge of even more history at the Masters

He has never not held at least a share of the lead following any of them.

McIlroy posted a 73 on Saturday, his worst round of this yearโ€™s tournament by far. He opened the door to be caught and the field took full advantage. Players Champion Cameron Young broke through the open door more than anybody and equaled McIlroyโ€™s 11-under score to date.

The duo who were a part of the same group on Thursday and Friday will comprise the final pairing on Masters Sunday. That Rory has spent so long dating back to last year with the burden of history to make upon his shoulders is hard to ignore. Last year was all about finally securing a green jacket to complete his Career Grand Slam.

It had been over a decade since heโ€™d won a major championship. Those narratives were put to bed, but with 18 holes standing between him and even more history (becoming just the fourth player ever to win consecutive Masters Championships) it is all fascinating to watch unfold. Saturday seemed to be the day that the burden weighed most heavily on Rory.
