In a new 2026 NFL Draft trade prediction from Fox Sports, the Pittsburgh Steelers sent Nick Herbig to the San Francisco 49ers.

Trade buzz is reaching a fever pitch as the Pittsburgh Steelers rapidly approach the 2026 NFL Draft , and one new proposal sees the team send an underrated edge rusher to the NFC. Fox Sports' Ralph Vacchiano recently named one player each NFC team should trade for during the 2026 NFL Draft, and the San Francisco 49ers were linked to Steelers edge rusher Nick Herbig. "Their pass rush was completely punchless last season, with Bryce Huff leading the team with just four sacks," Vacchiano wrote .

"They are hopeful that both Nick Bosa and Mykel Williams will be healthy and back in their old form next season, but they could use another body in the rotation. Herbig, 24, is stuck in a rotation behind T. J.

Watt and Alex Highsmith in Pittsburgh and in the final year of his contract. He had 13 sacks in a limited role over the past two seasons and would be well worth the high pick it would probably cost for the Steelers to swap him. " Vacchiano projected Herbig's trade value to cost the 49ers a 2026 second-round pick and a 2027 conditional fifth-round pick.

Contrary to the trade projection, insider Gerry Dulac recently hinted that the Steelers could be more inclined to trade a different edge rusher than Herbig.
