Dayton basketball: Transfer portal update — Who’s staying, who’s going
The college basketball transfer portal officially opened Tuesday, April 7, though players have been declaring their intentions regarding the portal for weeks. As of Tuesday afternoon, VerbalCommits. com listed more than 1,500 men’s basketball players in the portal.
Two of those played for the Dayton Flyers in the 2025-26 season: sophomore guard Bryce Heard and Sean Pouedet, a guard from Belgium who joined Dayton in December and averaged 5. 3 minutes in 14 appearances. The news of Heard entering the portal broke last week.
Pouedet’s name appeared on the VerbalCommits. com list Tuesday. Two Dayton players — redshirt sophomore forward Jaiun Simon and sophomore forward Amaël L’Etang — have made public announcements that they will stay with the program.
Another Dayton player, freshman guard Jaron McKie, does not plan to make a public announcement but told the Dayton Daily News he is staying at Dayton for his second season. McKie sat out this season after undergoing shoulder surgery just before the start of the season. That leaves three players who have not made a decision on staying or leaving or who have not announced their decision: junior guard De’Shayne Montgomery; redshirt freshman forward Malcolm Thomas; and freshman forward Damon Friery.
Players have until April 21 to decide whether they want to enter the portal.
