Cowboys safety Markquese Bell arrested on drug charges

Markquese Bell was arrested Friday in the Dallas suburbs on drug charges. The 5th-year safety was still in jail as of Saturday morning.

The offseason has been an active one for the Cowboys , with an overhaul of the defensive coaching staff, more free agency additions than usual, and even a few big-name trades as the team looks to improve their odds of success on the field. Thankfully, the majority of the headlines made have been football-related. Until now.

Safety Markquese Bell has been arrested in the Dallas suburb of Prosper, Tex. on drug charges, according to ProFootballTalk's Michael David Smith . The arrest took place Friday, with police reports showing a felony count of possession of a controlled substance and a misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana being brought against the 27-year-old entering his fifth season.

No details about the arrest have been made public, including an identification of the controlled substance in question. Bell was still in police custody as of Saturday morning . The Cowboys have yet to make an official statement on the matter.

Bell was signed by the club in 2022 as an undrafted free agent out of Florida A&M. Over four seasons, he has appeared in 51 games (playoffs included) and made 12 starts, logging 150 tackles, seven defended passes, three forced fumbles, and an interception. He signed a three-year contract extension worth up to $12 million in March of last year.
