2. Bundesliga: Kaiserslautern prevail to dent Hertha promotion hopes With the pressure firmly on the home side, it was Kaiserslautern who ultimately emerged with all three points, weathering an early storm before striking decisively in the second half through Mërgim Berisha. Hertha dominated proceedings from the outset, pinning the visitors back with sustained pressure.

Kevin Sessa tested Julian Krahl inside the opening ten minutes, forcing a sharp save as the hosts established control. Their superiority was underlined by a commanding share of possession, registering 73 percent after 20 minutes. Krahl continued to frustrate Hertha as the half wore on.

In the 35th minute, Kennet Eichhorn unleashed a low drive destined for the corner, only for the Kaiserslautern goalkeeper to produce another excellent stop to preserve parity heading into the interval. Despite their first-half dominance, Hertha were caught cold just two minutes after the restart. A poorly defended corner led to a scramble in the box, with Semih Şahin seeing his initial effort fall kindly for Berisha, who reacted quickest to fire home from close range and give the visitors a surprise lead.

Buoyed by the goal, Kaiserslautern grew into the contest, producing a far more assured display after the break. They remained compact and disciplined, frustrating Hertha’s attacking efforts while also threatening to extend their advantage. Berisha came close to doubling the lead at the back post but could only direct his effort over the bar from close range.

Hertha pushed forward in the closing stages in search of an equaliser, but Krahl proved unbeatable. Substitute Luca Schuler came closest, driving into the box before being denied by another outstanding low save from the Kaiserslautern shot-stopper. The hosts’ frustration was summed up deep into stoppage time when Paul Seguin found space inside the area, only to see his effort crash off the inside of the post and roll agonisingly across the goal line before bouncing to safety.
