Longtime NFL writer suggests wild trade idea for Commanders
One longtime NFL writer says the Commanders should approach the Steelers with a trade offer.
The Washington Commanders have added several pieces to their roster during the offseason, but one major piece still eludes Adam Peters: A star wide receiver. The Commanders have several options at receiver as it stands, but Terry McLaurin is the only true threat perceived by other teams. Peters is in search of a receiver who can line up opposite McLaurin and take some of the attention away.
This is why some draft analysts predict that the Commanders will select Carnell Tate in the first round, but the Commanders have other needs to address in the draft as well, which is why no one is certain what they will do. Fox Sports reporter Ralph Vacchiano recently suggested an alternative option. Acquire: WR DK Metcalf from the Pittsburgh Steelers Cost: 2026 third-round pick (71st), 2027 fifth-round pick The idea of the Steelers trading him all depends on what happens with Aaron Rodgers, and whether Pittsburgh goes for it all in 2026 or goes into a rebuilding mode.
They did just trade for Michael Pittman, so their cupboard wouldn’t be bare without Metcalf. And Metcalf was a bit of a disappointment last season with just 59 catches for 850 yards and six touchdowns as Rodgers struggled to find him downfield. He’d have better luck with the younger, stronger Jayden Daniels throwing him the ball.
And the Commanders are desperate for a WR opposite Terry McLaurin. Metcalf cost the Steelers a second-round pick. But after a down year, and with three years and more than $100 million left on his contract, something less would do.
