PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — Gavin Swartz wasn’t distracted by the people in the stands behind home plate. With Major League Baseball scouts watching his every move, Swartz pitched four innings of one-hit baseball to lead Normal Community to an 11-2 win at Notre Dame on Friday.
Swartz, who is signed to play at Indiana University, struck out seven, walked two and didn’t allow a run. Leadoff hitter Gavin Michaels had two hits and knocked in three runs for the Ironmen improved to 7-1 on the season. Normal Community had a 4-0 lead then scored five runs in the fifth.
Other baseball winners Friday included Washington, Normal West, Limestone, Tremont and Deer Creek-Mackinaw. Softball winners included East Peoria, Dunlap, Pekin, Notre Dame, Illini Bluffs and Central Catholic. Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
