PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Former Portland Winterhawks standout Marek Alscher made his NHL debut on Thursday night with the Florida Panthers. The 21-year-old recorded two shots, one hit, and one blocked shot in his first appearance.

Since turning pro in 2024, Alscher has trained with the Charlotte Checkers, Florida’s AHL affiliate, appearing in 104 games and tallying 21 points (five goals, 16 assists) over two seasons. “I just thought about how big of a dream it was for me,” Alscher said of his thoughts during Thursday’s rookie lap. “And it was just pure emotion out there.

” Before turning pro, Alscher played 178 games with Portland from 2021 to 2024, recording 66 points (22 goals, 44 assists). He also helped lead the Winterhawks during their 2024 Western Conference championship run and earned a bronze medal with Czechia at the World Junior Championship. Alscher is expected to remain in the lineup as Florida continues its road trip.
