PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Portland Trail Blazers announced Friday that veteran guard Jrue Holiday is the 2025–26 Maurice Lucas Award recipient. The annual honor celebrates the legacy of former Blazer Maurice Lucas who was known for his commitment to the community.

A three-time NBA All-Star, Lucas was a cornerstone of Portland’s 1977 championship team and remains one of the most respected figures in franchise history. In his first season in Portland, Holiday has quickly made a strong impression. He has visited a number of local schools throughout the year, participated in holiday events, celebrated the Blazers Boys and Girls Club, and spent time with patients at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.

“We had the absolute privilege to add one of the NBA’s best leaders and professionals to Rip City this season in Jrue,” shared Portland Trail Blazers General Manager Joe Cronin. “The spirit of the Maurice Lucas Award is who Jrue has been his entire career as a Champion, Olympian and Social Justice Champion and we are proud to call him a Trail Blazer. ” Holiday was previously named the NBA’s Social Justice Champion and continues to lead initiatives through the JLH Social Impact Fund which supports underserved communities nationwide.

As part of the award, the team will donate $5,000 to a nonprofit organization of Holiday’s choice. Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
