The only question regarding Seaside boys golf coming into this season wasn’t would they be able to rebuild, the question was how long would it take? Based on the results of their most recent tournament, the Seagulls are getting ready for takeoff. Competing in yet another high profile tournament featuring three of the four reigning state champions and the top four ranked 4A teams from last season, the Seagulls showed they will once again be right in the midst of state title contention.

The Marshfield Invitational at Emerald Valley on Wednesday, provided the young Gulls with another good test. Seaside shot a team score of 346, which was good enough to tie for eighth place with reigning 5A State Champion Corvallis and the top ranked team in 4A this season, Marshfield. Madras was the first 4A team with a third place finish and total score of 335. It was followed by Marist Catholic, finishing fifth with a score of 338. Xanh Quang led the way for Seaside with a 74.

Will Haag shot an 88, Landon Nofield carded an 89 and Gunner Norman finished with a 95. Freshman Fischer Stevenson was Seaside’s fifth player with a score of 105. Head coach Jim Poetsch was happy with his team’s performance and said that his team is trending up.
