Manuel Neuer’s agent says there’s still no decision on his Bayern Munich future

Neuer is taking his time deciding on his FC Bayern future, and rightfully so…

MADRID, SPAIN - APRIL 07: Manuel Neuer of FC Bayern Munich acknowledges the fans during the warm up prior to the UEFA Champions League 2025/26 Quarter-Final First Leg match between Real Madrid CF and FC Bayern München at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on April 07, 2026 in Madrid, Spain. He made a total of 9 saves at the Bernabéu and was quite rightfully named man of the match by UEFA for his efforts in the massive win for Vincent Kompany’s men.

It’s clear; the veteran keeper can still produce top level performances when he’s called upon, but how much longer will he be the main man between the sticks for the German Rekordmeister . Neuer’s current contract at Bayern expires this summer, and it was originally understood that by this time, he would have already sat down with the club’s front office and hierarchy to make a decision on his future — extend for another season, or leave the club on a free transfer this summer. That timetable has since been pushed back and the keeper’s agent, Thomas Kroth, has recently revealed that Neuer could be taking even more time to make a final decision on his future.

“No decision has been made yet regarding Manuel’s future. He wants to listen to his body for a little longer. The club is aware of the situation, both sides are relaxed and feel no time pressure,” Kroth told Bild (via @iMiaSanMia ).

Of course, Neuer has had injury setbacks throughout the course of this season, the most recent of which was a calf problem that he was initially rushed back too quickly from. At one point after Jonas Urbig suffered a concussion against Atalanta in the Champions League round of 16, Sven Ulreich had to deputize in a Bundesliga match for the first time in nearly 18 months and he came out of that controversial 1-1 draw at Bayer Leverkusen with a slight muscular problem. While the experience can often be a luxury to have in reserve for Bayern, that spell of all three of their senior keepers being injured was perhaps a reminder that they could be in need of looking for younger reinforcements this summer.
