Angels Route Reds, 10-1, With A Dominant Kochanowicz Start Plus A Home Run Barrage

The Los Angeles Angels used a power barrage and a great start by Jack Kochanowicz to blow out Cincinnati.

The Los Angeles Angels got back on track as they hit the road tonight against the Cincinnati Reds, with the Angels riding a strong start from Jack Kochanowicz and a barrage of home runs from Zach Neto, Josh Lowe and Jorge Soler to a blowout 10-1 victory. The win prevented a potential losing streak after the Angels dropped the last two games of their recent homestead to the Atlanta Braves. The Angels scored early and often in this one, getting single runs in the second and third innings then adding a pair in the fourth.

The first run scored on a bases-loaded walk issued by Reds starter Chase Burnes, with Adam Frazier getting the RBI for drawing the walk. The next came on an infield hit by Yoan Moncada that drove in Jorge Soler, who is still playing while appealing his suspension after his brawl with ย  Reynaldo Lopez against the Braves. After that the power hitters showed up.

Neto started to long-ball display with a two-run bomb to score Frazier and make it 4-0. The Reds finally got on the board in the fifth on a ground out by Friedl, but Josh Lowe quickly got that run back with another homer to make it 5-1. While the Angels were scoring, Kochanowicz was cruising.

He gave up just a single run and two hits in seven innings, and he threw an economical 95 pitches to get there, although he did struggle with four walks as 53 of those pitches were strikes. The Angels keps scoring in the eighth as Mike Trout drew a bases-loaded walk off Reds reliever Sam Moll, and Soler put the cherry on top of the five-run eighth inning with a grand slam to make it 10-1. New addition Mitch Farris came on in relief for Kochanowicz after being called up from Triple-A Salt Lake and tossing a scoreless inning against the Braves.
