Cyclones, No. 19 Cowgirls split doubleheader
Oklahoma State and Iowa State split a pair of contests at the Cyclone Sports Complex, with the Cyclones rebounding from a 8-3 defeat in game one as they run-ruled the Cowgirls 12-0 in the second game on Friday. In the series opener, Oklahoma State secured their victory behind a dominant first inning and a complete-game performance from pitcher Ruby Meylan. The Cowgirls jumped to a 4–0 lead in the top of the first, highlighted by Amanda Hasler’s two-run double and an RBI walk from Aubrey Jones.
Lexi McDonald also crossed the plate in the frame following a wild pitch. Iowa State’s Karlee Ford provided a spark with a solo home run in the second, but OSU extended its advantage with RBI doubles from Rosie Davis and RBI groundouts by Tia Warsop and Karli Godwin. Meylan earned the win, while Liv Palumbo was charged with the loss for the Cyclones.
The second game saw a complete shift in momentum as Iowa State powered its way to a shutout victory, ending the game early via an eight-run explosion in the fourth inning. Reagan Bartholomew opened the scoring with a solo home run in the first, and Kadence Shepherd added a two-run blast in the third to build a 4-0 cushion. The Cyclones then broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth, capitalizing on three Oklahoma State errors to score eight runs on seven hits.
Tatum Johnson and Ashley Minor both delivered RBI doubles during the rally, while McKenna Andrews and Shepherd added RBI singles. Iowa State pitcher Lauren Schurman was dominant on the mound, surrendering only two hits – doubles to Rosie Davis and Gabby Castillo – to secure the complete-game shutout in five innings. RyLee Crandall took the loss for Oklahoma State after being relieved during the fourth-inning surge.
Game three is scheduled for Sunday at noon.
