NC State baseball hosts annual Victory Over Cancer game
A Triangle faceoff on the baseball diamond got underway on Friday night, and a weekend series began between Duke and host NC State. And Saturday's game is very special to Wolfpack Nation - it's the annual Victory over Cancer game. NC State will honor pediatric cancer fighters, survivors and their families.
Wolfpack coach Elliott Avent started the event three years ago with the help of former player and current Major League Baseball star Trae Turner and his family, in conjunction with the V Foundation. is going to be here today," Avent said. "It's a lot of special things, and it gives you hope more than anything else. "Everybody that's fighting a fight, the main thing you need is hope," Avent added.
Avent confided in ABC11 that the event is deeply personal to him, as he has a young nephew battling cancer. The game is scheduled for 3 p. m.
Saturday at Doak Field at Dail Park. The Wolfpack took Friday night's game 10-4 against the Blue Devils.
