Yankees Not Making Excuses Over Brutal Offensive Showings
The New York Yankees haven't been playing the type of baseball they were expected to when entering the season over the past few days, and it's resulted in some tough losses. Offensively speaking, the Yankees only scored seven runs in the three games against the Athletics, including a shutout in the third game of the set. Not only did the Yankees fail to score a run, but they only had one hit.
While that's never a positive, the Yankees understand this can just be a one-time thing and they need to keep moving. Instead of harping on it, skipper Aaron Boone is ready to look ahead and get this offense back on track. “Look, we got shut down today,” Boone said , per SNY.
“The previous games where we’re struggling scoring, I feel like we’re getting the traffic and we’re having quality at-bats. Today was a day where we got beat. We just didn’t generate much, we didn’t hit a lot of balls on the screws at all, and didn’t create much traffic.
“We’ll get this thing going. We’ve got a few guys, obviously, struggling to get on track a little bit. Hopefully we’ll get things going down inside [in Tampa].
” When hitters in the Yankees lineup get shut down, we have to give some credit to what the opposing pitching staff did. The Athletics got a great outing from Jeffrey Springs, and they ended up doing the job, allowing zero runs over nine innings. “Stayed very unpredictable, I thought, with both, did a good job of really mixing, but really commanded the four-seam in and out and then sets up his changeup really well, obviously gave us some problems,” Boone added.
