The New England Patriots are really doing their due diligence at the quarterback position despite having the NFL MVP runner-up Drake Maye under center for the foreseeable future.

The Patriots met with the ACC Player of the Year, Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King, at the Shrine Bowl as well as last monthโ€™s NFL Combine. Now, a report from NFL Networkโ€™s Ian Rappaport confirms that the Patriots have hosted the Kansas Jayhawks sixth-year quarterback Jalon Daniels for a top-30 visit in Foxboro. In six years with the Jayhawks, Daniels recorded more than 10,000 total yards and 90 touchdowns.

Daniels is projected to be a very late third-day draft pick, if he is selected at all. However, the Patriots' showing interest in young quarterbacks is great news for Drake Maye fans. This indicates that the team no longer feels like a veteran presence is needed in the room for the 23-year-old to learn from.

Last season, the Patriots' need for a veteran backup cost them nearly $4 million in the form of Josh Dobbs. If this is no longer an area of need for New England, a rotating crew of UDFA project players could be nearly a quarter of the price. The Kansas City Chiefs are an example of a team that shares this luxury.
