DeChambeau, who finished T-5 and played in the final pairing last year alongside eventual winner Rory McIlroy, sat at 3 over heading to the 18th hole Friday with a bogey or better guaranteeing he would make the weekend at Augusta National. He was able to punch out to the greenside bunker on his second shot, but on his third he left himself in the bunker. His fourth shot landed on the front of the green and slowly trickled its way off the slope and back down into the fairway. He chipped up past the hole on his fifth shot only to two putt from there for a 7.
DeChambeau finishes at 6 over for the week after rounds of 76-74, though Friday's misfortunes were the product of one bad hole. He won his final two LIV events before coming to Augusta National. But on Friday, he's slamming his trunk instead of prepping for the weekend at the Masters.
