In the midst of a bullying scandal that affected almost a dozen players in the program, reported by the American-Statesman on Thursday night, Hays Consolidated Independent School District initially decided to forfeit the Lobosโ remaining four games in District 25-5A. The Hays county sheriff's department is investigating the allegations, according to authorities. But after pushback from parents during a meeting Friday morning, the Lobos will play two-game district series with Rouse and Hays, according to a news release from the district.
Friday's game against Liberty Hill remains nixed. โWe want parents to know that we hear them and agree that students not implicated in any potential wrongdoing should not be penalized when we can help it,โ Hays CISD chief communications officer Tim Savoy wrote Friday. โBecause we have identified enough players not implicated to keep the baseball teams in business, we are glad to be able to do it.
โ The release pointed to video that helped Hays CISD make this decision. That video was not immediately made public. The district suspended 10 Lehman students and put one staff member on paid administrative leave due to the bullying reports.
